Equality Statement

Holy Family Catholic Primary School

“Always our best for God, each other and ourselves.”

Our Commitment to Equality

At Holy Family Catholic Primary School, we are dedicated to promoting equality, diversity, and inclusion for all members of our school community. We believe every pupil, staff member, parent, and visitor should be treated with dignity and respect, reflecting our Catholic values and mission.

We comply fully with the Equality Act 2010 and the Public Sector Equality Duty (PSED), which require us to:

  • Eliminate unlawful discrimination, harassment, and victimisation based on protected characteristics including race, sex, disability, religion or belief, sexual orientation, gender reassignment, pregnancy and maternity, age, marriage, and civil partnership.
  • Advance equality of opportunity by identifying and addressing barriers faced by pupils and staff with protected characteristics.
  • Foster good relations by encouraging respect, understanding, and positive interactions across all groups.

Our approach is also aligned with the Keeping Children Safe in Education statutory guidance (2025) and the Human Rights Act 1998, ensuring safeguarding and human rights underpin all our work.

Our Diverse School Community

We are proud of our richly diverse community, with over half our pupils speaking English as an Additional Language (EAL) and around 70% from Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) backgrounds. We celebrate this diversity as a gift from God and central to our mission to nurture every pupil’s God-given potential.

Leadership and Accountability

Our Governing Body and Senior Leadership Team take strategic responsibility for embedding equality within all aspects of school life. This includes:

  • Regular training for staff and governors on equality, safeguarding, and inclusion.
  • Consulting and engaging with pupils, parents, staff, and community groups to inform policies and objectives.
  • Considering equality impacts in all significant decisions and policy developments.

Supporting Our Pupils

We are committed to:

  • Removing barriers and providing tailored support to meet the needs of pupils with protected characteristics.
  • Creating a safe, inclusive environment free from bullying, harassment, and discrimination.
  • Promoting positive attitudes to diversity through our curriculum, assemblies, and school activities.

Monitoring and Reporting

We regularly monitor pupil progress and wellbeing data to identify and address any inequalities. Our equality objectives are specific, measurable, and reviewed regularly to ensure continuous improvement. We publish updates on our progress to maintain transparency and accountability.
