This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2, due to the non-compliances and exemptions listed below:
Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations
The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.
Some hyperlinks are only identified by colour
- This fails WCAG 2.1 Criterion 1.4.1 (use of colour).
- Such styling will be reviewed.
Some images do not have a text alternative, so people using a screen reader cannot access the information
- This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.1.1 (non-text content).
- We intend to review all images and add text alternatives.
- When we publish new content we’ll make sure our use of images meets accessibility standards.
Some text may be presented as a graphical image
- This fails WCAG criterion 1.4.5 (images of text).
- We intend to replace any such graphics in due course.
Disproportionate burden
In line with WCAG guidelines, we may rely on the disproportionate burden exception where the cost or effort to meet requirements is deemed excessive in relation to the benefit.
Some of the colours used do not meet colour contrast requirements
- Text must have at least 4.5:1 contrast ratio against its background as per WCAG criterion 1.4.5
- The colour design is integral to the overall user experience and brand identity, and altering it would require substantial redesign efforts across multiple pages and elements.
- We are committed to providing accessible alternatives wherever possible, including offering customisable features or high-contrast modes to support users with visual impairments.
- When we next review the design of the website we will carefully consider how our design and branding can be made compatible with recommended contrast ratios.
Some non-essential hyperlinks may not have text / may be duplicated
- Some non-essential hyperlinks may be presented as icons without text, in contravention of WCAG criterion 2.44 (Link Purpose)
- Similarly, some adjacent links may go to the same destination, resulting in repetition for screen readers.
- When we next review the design and build of the website we will carefully consider the coding of such links.
Some PDF documents may not be fully accessible to screen reader software
- Such documents fail various WCAG criteria (text alternatives, document structure, operability and readability) where they lack proper tagging, text recognition (OCR), or alternative text for images.
- When we publish new documents we will endeavour to make sure our use of documents complies with accessibility regulations.
- Reviewing and changing all existing PDFs to meet accessibility standards would be a disproportionate burden due to:
- Large Volume: A significant number of documents would require extensive time and resources to review and update.
- Complexity: Some documents may require complex changes, such as re-tagging or restructuring.
- Brand Impact: Altering documents could affect their visual integrity or branding.
- Resource Constraints: We may lack the resources or expertise to make widespread changes.
- Cost vs. Benefit: The effort to update all documents may outweigh the practical benefits, especially for less frequently used PDFs.
Content that’s not within the scope of the accessibility regulations
Live video
- We do not plan to add captions to live video streams because live video is exempt from meeting the accessibility regulations.
Commitment to Improvement
While schools are partially exempt from accessibility requirements for public sector websites, we must still ensure that essential content, such as forms for Free School Meal applications, is accessible. Given this partial exemption, we believe we currently meet the government’s accessibility requirements. However, we are committed to continually improving accessibility, as outlined earlier in this statement, to ensure an inclusive experience for all users.
