RSHE
We are currently in a consultation period, with a view towards moving from 'Journey in Love' to the TenTen scheme, 'Life to the Full' for RSHE, alongside our Jigsaw programme in PSHE. There was a consultation evening on Wednesday 6th December 2023 to share the resources and answer any questions from parents; however, if you were unable to make this, the following links may be useful:

There will be another parent consultation in the spring term at a date to be confirmed.
Following the guidance of the Bishops of England and Wales and as advocated by the Department for Education, RSHE will be firmly embedded in the PSHE framework as it is concerned with nurturing human wholeness and integral to the physical, spiritual, emotional, moral, social and intellectual development of pupils. It is centred on Christ’s vision of being human as good news and will be positive and prudent, showing the potential for development, while enabling the dangers and risks involved to be understood and appreciated.
All RSHE will be in accordance with the Church’s moral teaching. It will emphasise the central importance of marriage and the family whilst acknowledging that all pupils have a fundamental right to have their life respected whatever household they come from. It will also prepare pupils for life in modern Britain.
At Holy Family, we provide a suitable programme that follows the statutory need to include RSHE into our curriculum and that meets the ethos of our Catholic identity and mission. To support the teaching of RSHE within Holy Family, we currently use Jigsaw and ‘A Journey in Love’.
‘A Journey in Love’ is a resource created by Sister Jude Groden and has been written as a progressive scheme of work that supports the Religious Education, PSHE and Science curricula taught within the school. This resource has been recently revised to ensure it is up to date and links to DfE guidelines where appropriate.
As with all aspects of learning, children are naturally curious and many will have questions related to their lessons. Opportunities to discuss questions form part of the lessons and again these are treated with care and understanding.
I am happy to welcome in parents at any time to discuss the content of our RSHE offer and to show you the resources.
It’s important to note that:
- Parents will not be able to withdraw their child from Relationships Education in primary school or secondary school.
- Parents will be able to withdraw their child from primary school classes which address sex education - i.e. those that do not sit within the Relationships Education curriculum.
- Maintained primary schools are required to teach National Curriculum science, which includes some elements of sex education. Parents do not have a right to withdraw from this.
