Shrove Tuesday
Lent is a time when many Catholic people ‘fast’. This means to give something up. Traditionally, people give up rich foods such as eggs, milk and butter. To use these ingredients up before Lent begins, people often make pancakes. This is why some people call Shrove Tuesday ‘Pancake Day’. It is the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday (the first day of Lent).
We watched a film about Shrove Tuesday. Then we made our own pancake toppings and celebrated Shrove Tuesday by eating pancakes!
