As part of our learning about toys in the past, we learned about the toys that children made. With the support of parents (and a Grandma!), who came into school to help us, we made our very own hobbyhorses.

The project covered lots of DT skills:

• We planned our designs in our DT booklets.
• We used a variety of different materials, including: sticks, wool, felt, string, bubble wrap and buttons.
• We learned to stuff; draw templates; cut accurately with scissors; join materials and decorate/finish.
• We used masking tape, string and the hot glue gun to assemble our horses.
• We evaluated our products and thought about what we’d do differently next time.

Finally, we held a ‘Grand National’, where we all learned to gallop as we raced our hobbyhorses in a class competition. The winning jockey was riding ‘Peter Pan’!
