This Lent CAFOD are inviting schools to take part in The BIG Lent Walk!

Following the success of CAFOD’s ‘Walk for Water’, ‘Walk against Hunger’ and BIG Lent Walk 2023 appeals, we have decided as a school to support CAFOD’s ‘BIG Lent Walk’ 2024 Lenten appeal.  

“CAFOD's Lent walking challenge is back, and this year it's the Big Lent Walk! By taking on the challenge of walking 200km in 40 days, you will be part of a massive team helping people as they overcome poverty.”

Why join the BIG Lent Walk?

This Lent CAFOD is supporting families with the skills and tools they’ve asked for to fight the climate crisis.

You will be helping our local Caritas network to respond, distributing cash to the most vulnerable families, with a focus on people with chronic illness, breastfeeding mothers, children under five and older people. Each family receives around £32 a month to buy maize flour, cooking oil, vegetables and other essential food supplies.

CAFOD is challenging people to walk 200km this Lent. That’s a long walk for one person, but we are planning to do it together as a school. With all the children, staff and any parents who wish to join us, I am positive we can cover this distance together, if not further!

The Chaplaincy team have worked hard to plan a walk for the whole school to take part in, leaving the school at 1.30pm on Tuesday 27^th February and walking to Little Stoke Park, around the park and back to school. If any parents can come and support us in person on this afternoon, walking with us, please let your child’s teacher know on your class dojo. The more people we have the greater distance we can walk together!

To support this, the school have set up a Just Giving page which will send any money donated directly to CAFOD, enabling them to provide help to those needing food around the world. Anything that you can spare would be greatly appreciated.

As you all know, on Tuesday afternoon the whole school walked around Little Stoke part. Each person walked 2.21km in support of CAFOD. CAFOD’s Lenten Appeal this year was entitled ‘The BIG Lent Walk’. We are incredibly proud of the children, for not only completing the 2.21km walk but for doing this with smiles on their faces and willingness in their hearts! (As you saw on the video posted by Mr. Harding) Thank you to all the adults who came and supported us during this walk.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank you so much for the kind and generous donations that you have given in support of the school and CAFOD. It is very much appreciated and will help towards fighting global poverty. With your support and the children’s dedication to walking, we have managed to raise a staggering ..........£525!

This is not only an amazing amount in support of those in need, but has exceeded the amount raised last year for CAFOD’s annual Lenten appeal. WELL DONE!
