God wants us to help make sure everyone is safe and healthy and can have a good life.

"Every human being regardless of background or circumstances has equal rights as a person. These rights come not from the government but from the fact that they are created in the image and likeness of God. Many nations have gone on to recognise that human beings have basic rights as outlined in the International Declaration of Human Rights. However, the human rights that the Catholic Church speaks of, go much further.

With human rights come great responsibilities for us and for one another. All people have the right to a fair share of the world's resources so that their basic needs can be met. With these natural rights come responsibilities to respect the rights of each person.

Everyone should share what he or she does not need when there are people who lack necessities to live a dignified life. In order to ensure the common good, we must protect human rights as well as meet our responsibility for the rights of others, the good of the individual, for the family and the wider community." Caritas in Action.

Chaplaincy Team introduced this term's focus with an assembly which they planned and delivered themselves. They spoke to the whole school about this new aspect with examples of 'Rights and Responsibilities'.

Year 5 The children thought about what the meaning of 'Rights and Responsibilities' to them. They heard about Izran and his community and the lack of clean water to drink and use, until the Catholic Relief Service supported them. A discussion was had about the rights of the people in Izran's community and of each of us. The children went on to write a 'Declaration of Rights and Responsibilities' for all people in our world.
