Solidarity and the Common Good
God made everyone, so we are all brothers and sisters in God’s family wherever we live.
"Solidarity is based on the belief that we are all responsible for one another because we all belong to the one human family created and loved by God. At the very heart of the idea of solidarity is the understanding that we must take care of each other and unite against anything that harms another person because of who they are - our brothers and sisters. At the heart of the virtue of solidarity is the commitment to working for justice and peace. Without this commitment, we cannot bring about a just and peaceful world for all people." Caritas in Action
Some members of the Chaplaincy Team introduced our new focus of Catholic Social Teaching for this term through an assembly to the whole school. The children involved planned, resourced and delivered this assembly independently! We are very proud of them.
Each year group looked at the theme of 'Solidarity and the Common Good' in term 3. See examples of the work produced in the photographs below.
Year 5 The children started by thinking about the meaning about 'Solidarity and the Common Good'. They heard a story about Hamuli who lived in a community where they relied on the crops from their farms. Unfortunately their crops were affected by disease. To support each other, the farmers all worked together to grow crops and helped each other to sort the disease, showing evidence of solidarity. The children went on to think about how Christians show solidarity and how we can show it in our lives.
Loving God,
Help us to see the suffering of others and build up a world of love and solidarity.
As we go about our day and strive to walk with Jesus as people in solidarity, may we be reminded that we are the love of Christ, who is with us always.
Amen.
