Life and Dignity of the Human Person
God made each person, so every life is important and should be protected.
" Catholic Social Teaching calls us to recognise that all human beings are our brothers and sisters designed to be one race, one people, one family - the human race, the human family, called to be the People of God, the Body of Christ, to live in communion, one with the other and our God.
The challenge set down by the social teaching of the Church is to ensure that in all our relationships and dealings with one another, be it at a local, national or global level, we must never lose sight of the dignity and value of the human person and life itself. Respect for human life means respect at every stage of the human person's development from conception to death." Caritas in Action.
Each year group looked at the theme of 'Life and Dignity of the Human Person' in term 1. See examples of the work produced in the photographs below.
Year 5 thought about the meaning of 'Life and Dignity of the Human Person' to them and how this affects them in their family, school and in their actions with the world.
Year 4 thought about their special gifts and how we can share these with others.
Year 3 thought about how we can walk together in peace and stand up for what is right. They considered the term 'walk a mile in someone's shoes' and created their own poems in response to this.
Year 1 thought about how we are all different and amazing; and all equal in God's eyes and loved. We look after each other because we are brothers and sisters.
Year 2 looked at working together and using the gifts that God gave us, The children discussed what it feels like to work hard.
“ I feel proud when I work hard” Zofia.
“I get tired when I work hard” Darcie.
During PE, we walked together as a class – we were walking as a community and played follow the leader to copy our partner’s actions. We then wrote a class prayer about working hard and using our gifts from God to help others.
Dear God,
Thank you for the skills that you gave us,
Thank you, God, for giving us the world for us to look after,
Thank you for making us special and unique,
I hope to use my skills for learning, helping and loving other people,
Thank you, God, for giving us school and teachers,
Thank you for helping us concentrate,
Thank you for giving us people to stand up for other people,
Amen.
